By Austin Jacobsen May 3, 2024 | 11:35 AM

Mike Riley // Nebraska Athletics

Former Nebraska and Oregon State head football coach Mike Riley has been named to the College Football Playoff selection committee, per a report by ESPN.

The former Husker head coach replaces athletic director Pat Chun, after Chun elected to join the University of Washington as its next athletic director.

Riley left for Nebraska in 2014 from Oregon State after two stints with the Beavers in 1997-1998 and again in 2003-2014. Riley was fired by former athletic director Bill Moos in November 2017 after suffering a season-ending loss to Iowa in the home regular season finale in a 56-14 defeat. Riley’s final season in Lincoln ended at 4-8, the worst record at Nebraska since 1961 until the 3-9 finish in 2021.

Riley finished 19-19 overall at Nebraska in three seasons, including a strong start to the final bowl appearance by the Big Red in 2016 beginning the season 7-0.

Riley will serve a three-year term on the CFP.
